UV Outliner v. 2.0 is released

with 18 comments

I have something to celebrate today – UV Outliner 2.0 finally released.

You can download it from here:
http://uvoutliner.com/uvoutliner-setup-2.0.exe

This release is special. From now, UV Outliner is free.
In a few months I’ll release a “Pro” version of UV Outliner, which will contain additional features not available in free version. Those of you who purchased previous versions of outliner will be able to use a “Pro” version.

So, what’s new in 2.0:

Memory consumption and performance
Outliner became less resource greedy. This improvement especially useful when working with large outlines. In 2.0 memory consumption is down 2-3 times.
Also performance is greatly improved – arranging data in large outlines now happens much faster.

Outline notes
Any line in the document may have a note associated with it.
Notes may contains formatted text. There is a modifiable style which contains default formatting for notes.

Migration to .Net framework 4.0
New .Net framework 4.0 has few advantages over 3.5:
* improved typography, which means more readable text
* lightweight – no need to download huge framework distribution when installing UV Outliner.

Lot’s of bug-fixes
Bug-fixes with fonts, styles, editing and so on…

Thank you for using UV Outliner!

  1. Good to see new release. Just wondering what features are considering for pro version?

    Also wanted to say version 2.0 installer doesn’t seem to detect if .Net framework 4.0 is already installed on PC. I installed UV Outliner 2.0 and it asked me to repair or uninstall .Net framework 4.0.

    • Thanks for the bugreport, just fixed it.

      Few features which will be in pro soon:
      * ability to change properties of a row – this will allow setting of auto-numbering style, visibility of checkboxes (for a subtree), etc…
      * ability to insert images

      I think most of new big features will be in a Pro from start.

      The following features I plan for everyone:
      * Improved export
      * Ability to insert hyperlinks

    • Could you add e.Handled = true; in OnKeyPress event of row editor, and have a try?

      • I am on this right now, unfortunately it is not that easy, as I completely rewrote key processing for an edit (this is needed for undo/redo support).

      • Hei! I’ve tried microsoft IME. The “uvoutliner-setup-2.0-ime” version works well!!!
        The problem “input 一二三四, got一二二三三四四”, happens in other IME call “sogou IME”.
        It works! Thank you!

    • I made few fixes to work correctly with “sogou pinyin” IME.

      Could you please download and try this version:

      Thanks!

      • Everything work ok in 2.1b. The UV Outliner now is ready for i18n!
        Great work! Thanks!
        The Omni outliner only has osx version. I think UV is best outliner on Windows!

      • Hi Fedir, does it make sense for others to also download v2.1b instead of 2.0? I have not yet installed v2. Thanks; keep up the good work :-)

      • Hi Alexander,
        I already published v. 2.1 as the last version on the site. It only adds support for IME (which is used in languages like Japanses, Chinese etc…)
        Thanks :)

  4. Great stuff, Fedir – I’m delighted. It’s a nice little program, and it’s good to know you’re still working on it! Keep up the good work.

  5. This is a good program. Do you plan to make the Notes in Pro hideable, like in omni? If you do that I’ll def buy it.
